about WCARES - WN1EOC

Washington County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (WCARES) in Maine trains, prepares, exercises in emergency communications in the event disaster strikes our region. Our members serve their communities and our "served agency" the Washington County Emergency Management Agency.

Washington County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (WCARES) is composed of FCC licensed Amateur (HAM) Radio operators who have registered their capabailities and equipment for public service communications and disaster/emergency communications duty. WCARES operates in accordance with the Communications Act of 1934 (as amended), Federal Communications Commission Regulations, ARRL guidelines, the Maine ARES Emergency Communications Plan (Rev 9/16/2010) and the guidelines listed in the local ARES plan. In accordance with Federal Communications Commission Regulations, Amateur Radio communication services are furnished without compensation of any kind.

Any licensed amateur radio operator residing in Washington County, Maine, who has a sincere desire to serve their community in times of disaster or emergency, and who is willing to enhance their skills through training, is eligible to join WCARES.

WCARES holds a weekly net on the W1LH Cooper Mountain Repeater 147.330+ PL 118.8 on Mondays at 1900 (7:00pm)
